A Virtual Cruise along the Rochdale Canal

The Rochdale Canal runs for 33 miles between Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, and Manchester, England.

It is open now for navigation along the whole of the route since the re-opening of the Littleborough to Manchester section in 2002.

You can sit back and enjoy this virtual cruise along the canal. It will give you a flavour of the scenery and the canal architecture the canal offers.

The "cruise" or virtual tour is arranged in five sections. It runs from east to west, but includes views of the canal looking in either direction. The "trip" continues from the virtual cruise of the Huddersfield Narrow and Broad Canals and begins by following the Calder and Hebble Navigation between Cooper Bridge and Sowerby Bridge.

The quality of each image has been kept moderately low to enable the pages to load reasonably quickly, although it may take up to 30 seconds for all the pictures on a page to load.

If you enjoy the "cruise" you can continue your virtual cruise along the Ashton Canal from Manchester, then either choosing the Peak Forest Canal or continuing back along the Huddersfield Canal to complete a virtual Pennine Ring.
