Problems during the first week of opening

At 9.00 am on May 1st, the pound above Lock 4E was almost empty.

On the morning of May 2nd, the water had drained out of the pound above Lock 1E, probably due to rubbish blocking a paddle, leaving these boats high and almost dry.

On May 4th, boats were held up while objects, including a washing machine, were removed from Lock 1E. On the morning of May 5th a diver was brought in to clear rubbish that was fouling the gates and paddles.
