How to join and add your ring panel
space
This page tells you how to join this web ring and how to add a web ring panel to your web site.

A. For new webring members:
To join UK Waterways webring you will need to sign up with Webring. Click here to sign up then go to straight to section C.

B. For existing webring members:
The good news is that you now have a choice of the kind of webring panel you display. You can use a javascript code like that previously used by Yahoo. You just copy and paste the code. Any new rings you join will be displayed automatically. If you already belong to other web rings and have the javascript code on your page, UK Waterways should appear in the "stack" automatically once you have been admitted to the ring. (If not, get the javascript code again - see section E.)

Alternatively, you can use an HTML version of the webring panel. Using an HTML version helps your page to load slightly faster and I have created a choice of different styles of panel for you to choose from. (see section F.)

C. How to Join UK Waterways Web Ring:
If you have already registered with Webring and have a Webring ID, click
http://F.webring.com/wrman?ring=waterways&addsite
Please include a description of your site which will appear in the web ring listings. Then go to Section D.

(If you are a member of Yahoo but have not registerd with Webring, you can register with the new Webring system using the same ID you have with Yahoo:
Click on http://webring.yahoo.com/rw , Sign in to Yahoo with your Yahoo ID and password.
Where it says "If you would like to migrate to the New Webring system" click on "Do it here!" and follow instructions.)

D. To get your new webring panel code:
The easiest way to get a ring panel is to choose one of the HTML panels shown below. To do this, go straight to section F.
If you already belong to other Webring.org rings, you may already have the javascript code on your site. This web ring will automatically be added to the others when your site is admitted. If you want to use a javascript panel but do not already have the code, go to Section E.

E. Javascript panel:
The first kind of panel you can use is the javascript version.
The advantage is that you only need to put the code on your page once, even if you belong to several webrings. When you join other web rings, they will appear automatically.
The disadvantages are that they take slightly longer to load and may end up looking wider than expected unless you enclose them in a fixed width table.

To get your javascript code follow these steps:

4) You will see a list of all the web rings your site belongs to. On the same line as it says "Waterways", click the title of your website.

5) This is the page on which you can edit information about your website. Click "Get Navigation Code" in left hand column.

6) If you want to use the javascript panel, copy the code shown on this page and paste it into the code for your own web page.

F. HTML panel:
A choice of different coloured HTML panels is available. They load straight away and can be seen in browsers that cannot see javascript. Choose one that looks good with your colour scheme. If you prefer, you could vary the size or the colours to fit in with your web page design.

Choose one of the panels below, copy the code given and paste it into your web page code. But you must add your web site number by hand by replacing XXXXX each of the times it occurs. For example, if your site is number 94, replace "ring=waterways&id=XXXXX" with "ring=waterways&id=94" each time it appears in the code. Your web ring ID number was shown on the email received when your site was admitted to the ring. If you have forgotten it, please email me and I will send it.

If you have any problems please ask me for further help. The new Webring system makes it easier for me to change settings or help you in other ways. If you have difficulty and would like me to send you the code for an HTML panel please email me and let me know which style of panel you would like to use.

Please contact me if you require further help or if you have forgotten your ring number.
