British Waterways have announced details of the winter closure programme affecting canals in the South Pennine area to enable repairs and maintenance work to take place.

Bridgewater	1st Sept 2003	Pomona Lock	closed until further notice until water levels on canal return to normal, following vandalism at this lock latest information: 0161 629 8266
	3rd Nov 2003 - 24th Jan 2004	Worsley Bridge to M60 Bridge, Leigh Branch	pipes being laid under canal - part of scheme to prevent ochre contamination at Worsley
	17th Nov 2003 - 5th March 2004	Whitehead Hall Bridge	lock gates installed east of bridge to protect against potential leaks
