To the north of the Stairfoot road junction and the old railway line, a short section of canal is in water.

Looking back towards the old railway.
For the next quarter of a mile the infilled canal route is fenced off and inaccessible. Following that, an embankment and aqueduct that crossed Tank Row has been removed.

Beyond the missing aqueduct at Tank Row, the overgrown line of the canal can be followed again.

Looking east along the towpath near the disused Barnsley Main or Oaks Colliery. Coal waste has been spread onto the former canal channel on the right.

On the hill above the canal stands Oaks Colliery, which became Barnsley Main Colliery.
